Dieppe International Kite Festival!

We (my friends Bernadette, Alexis, Andrea and I) went to Dieppe today for the International Kite Festival. So cool! The festival comes around every two years, and the day was seriously perfect. Dieppe is right by the sea so it was windy (good for kites), but the sun was shining and there were lots of white puffy clouds in the brilliant blue sky. We walked along the sea looking at some of the giant kites up close. Among other things, we saw a lot of sea creatures, a giant angry looking teddy bear, and a school bus.

my favorite!

There are various competitions for kites at this festival, so there was a lot of activity (including men walking around on stilts). In addition, there were experts doing pretty sweet tricks with their kites. One of the kites we saw had about 15 components attached horizontally. It was pretty intense haha. At one point one of the less skilled kite flyers (a child) lost control, and the kite ended up hitting me in the face. But don’t worry, everything turned out ok in the end.

And yes, we bought a kite and attempted to fly it. Unfortunately, we were a little rusty. Eventually it was smooth sailing, so I guess I can say I was part of the International Kite Festival!
Our kite!

All in all it was a fantastic day, and a nice excursion before classes start tomorrow.

Fun Fact: kite in French is “cerf-volant”
